Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the WxLens website and forecast workstation, a United States–based service. By creating an account or using the workstation, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Questions can be sent to hello@wxlens.net.

1. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding agreement to use an account. Provide accurate account information, keep your credentials secure, and notify us of suspected unauthorized access. Each forecaster should use their own account so authorship and verification remain accurate.

If you act for an organization, you represent that you have authority for the actions you take on its behalf. An invitation or team role does not itself establish ownership of an employer's content or authority to bind it to a separate contract.

2. Professional judgment and weather information

WxLens assists forecast preparation, decision recording, and verification. You remain responsible for evaluating guidance and for forecasts, broadcasts, and operational decisions you make. Consult current official warnings and appropriate primary sources for safety decisions.

Weather guidance, observations, and derived statistics can be incomplete, delayed, incorrect, or unavailable. Forecast uncertainty, station siting, missing observations, sampling intervals, and model upgrades affect results. Sampled highs and lows may miss the actual extreme. Historical performance does not promise future performance or superiority to NBM.

The service is not an emergency warning system and is not designed to be the sole source for decisions involving risk to life, property, or public safety.

3. Your forecasts and other content

You and any applicable rights holders retain ownership of content you submit. You grant WxLens a nonexclusive license to host, store, back up, process, display, and transmit that content as needed to provide, secure, support, and improve the service as described in the Privacy Policy. This includes verification and the personal or team analytics you use. This license does not transfer ownership of your forecasts to WxLens.

You must have permission to submit and share content, including employer information. Do not submit unlawful content, another person's credentials, or information you are not authorized to disclose.

Forecasts and notes preserve decision history. Revisions are new records. A request to correct personal information or close an account is handled through the privacy process; it does not automatically retract copies other people already received.

4. Teams and shared work

Team administrators control membership, roles, and station assignments. Save only the decisions and notes you intend to share with that team. Shared content may remain in team history after you leave. Your employment and organizational agreements determine rights between you and your organization; these terms do not resolve those questions.

A separate written agreement with WxLens may set additional terms for an organization or pilot. If it conflicts with these terms, that agreement controls for its stated scope, subject to rights that cannot be waived.

5. Acceptable use

  • Use the service lawfully and respect other users' privacy and intellectual property.
  • Do not bypass authentication, access another account or team without permission, introduce malicious code, or disrupt the service.
  • Do not overload the service or conduct automated extraction beyond an interface or permission we provide.
  • Do not falsify authorship, manipulate verification records, or present samples or stale guidance as current official forecasts.
  • Keep source credits and license notices with third-party data when required.

6. WxLens and third-party rights

WxLens and its licensors retain rights in the software, design, and branding. We give you permission to use the service and its available export features for your permitted work while you comply with these terms.

Weather data and external websites may have their own terms and attribution requirements. In particular, ECMWF Open Data displayed by the service carries its applicable source attribution and CC BY 4.0 notice. Preserve credits in exported or redistributed material. These terms do not limit rights granted by an applicable open-data license. Access through WxLens does not grant rights to products or archives that are not included in their licenses.

7. Pilots, availability, and changes

The service may include pilot or experimental features. Features, model coverage, and availability may change. Unless a separate written agreement says otherwise, we do not promise uninterrupted operation, a service-level commitment, a particular response time, or permanent availability of any feature.

Creating an account or requesting a pilot does not by itself start a paid subscription. Any fees or paid-service terms must be disclosed and agreed separately. Keep your own copies of information you need for your work.

8. Disclaimers and liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, WxLens is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or noninfringement. We do not warrant that the service or data will be accurate, complete, secure, or free of interruptions or errors.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, WxLens is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits or business opportunities, arising from use of or inability to use the service. Our total liability for claims arising from the service is limited to the greater of US $100 or the amount you paid WxLens for the service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

These limits do not exclude liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or any liability or consumer right that applicable law does not allow to be excluded or limited. A separate written agreement may provide different terms.

9. Suspension and ending use

You may stop using the service at any time and contact us to request account closure. We may restrict or suspend access for abuse, security risks, legal requirements, or a material breach of these terms. Where practical, we will explain the issue and give you an opportunity to address it.

Account closure and suspension do not automatically delete shared records or backups. Information handling remains governed by the Privacy Policy. Provisions that by their nature need to continue, including content rights, liability limits, and accrued obligations, survive the end of access.

10. Updates and general terms

We may revise these terms and will post the updated date. We will provide notice of material changes through the service or an appropriate account communication before they take effect. If you do not accept revised terms, stop using the service; changes do not remove rights that cannot be waived.

If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law. Nothing here requires arbitration, waives a class action, or selects an exclusive court or state. Applicable law determines those matters unless a separate valid agreement says otherwise.

Contact hello@wxlens.net about these terms or a service concern.
